St. Paddy's & a super productive week!
Hey!
Wow, my head is absolutely banging right now having just done two hours
solid of Chinese study! It’s a good feeling though. But I thought it would be a
good time, now 9pm on my Sunday evening, to write my weekly blog.
So, as Holi ended St. Patrick’s Day arrived! I had a fun week of
teaching St. Patrick’s Day to all my classes but Grade one; who to be frank
wouldn’t have a clue what I’m talking about if I wacked a leprechaun and four
leaf clover on the screen. Nevertheless, I had a fun review lesson with my
grade ones and awesome St. Paddy’s lessons with the rest! The week absolutely
flew by and I enjoyed my teaching even more; because the content and lesson was
fun! If you spend time making the lesson fun, you actually find you enjoy
teaching it so much more. That’s how I felt anyway.
This has definitely been a very productive week and weekend for me. I
decided to, due to my still not completely healed ankle, take it easy and rest.
This worked well with the fact that I’ve got sooo many things to catch up on
with word, writing, blogging, vlogging, Chinese, travel planning and the like. In fact, on Friday evening around 6:30 not long after my Chinese lesson at Xujiahui, I met up with my friend Grace for a traditional Chinese massage. It was nice to relax for an hour and have a (quite painful) nice massage.
So, I mostly studied Chinese, lesson planned, travel planned and have
started preparation for my History Society Presentation next week on Indians in
Shanghai. This morning I had my HSK 2 Test which went pretty well. I haven’t gotten
the results yet but I’m pretty sure I’ve passed. Now that I’ve gotten through
HSK 1 and 2, IT’S TIME FOR THE REAL STUFF.
I’m currently now starting my study of HSK 3, which is literally all
CHINESE CHARACTERS – how daunting! I love it though, it’s exciting to study. I
not only love teaching, I genuinely also love learning. Chinese does to me what
I love – challenges, educates, communicates and expands my mind.
So apart from a whole lot of productive activity; I haven’t done much
this past week. However, it’s not long at all until my trip to Japan and Korea.
I’ll be visiting Takamatsu, Tokyo and Busan. I’m massively excited and what’s
even more great is that a Japanese friend I met in Hampi, India is going to
meet up with me and show me around Tokyo! Travel makes the world so much
smaller and it’s so amazing to make friends all over the globe. I’ll also be
spending the weekend in Busan with Ohjooo a Korean friend I made when I
travelled to Seoul in September!
Life is good, busy and fruitful.
I’ll be in touch!
