Build-up towards the National Holiday!

Image
So it’s currently Friday 30 th September and I am, excitedly, on an aeroplane to Yantai International Airport whereby I will be for 6 hours before flying to my final destination; Seoul, South Korea! Yep you heard right, a 6 and a half hour’s layover, but it means that I got the flight quite cheap at 2000rmb return (roughly £200) and I can use that time productively getting my lesson planning etc. done. Fortunately for me, I don’t work on Fridays so my National Holiday has begun a day earlier than most. I’ve been to Korea before, Jeju Island, but never have I been to Seoul – arguably the soul of Korea! I’ll be in Seoul and potentially Busan (close to Seoul) for 6 nights. I’m excited and will write in my next blog about the trip! So I last wrote on Sunday, so it’s only been 4-5days since then. It’s been a productive and busy week. On Monday I had my usual long working day in Qingpu. I awoke early and took my usual 10minute metro journey and then 30minute bus journey to work. T...

I've been in Shanghai for one month - time flies!

So here I am, yet again, sat up late on my Sunday evening reflecting on another week in Shanghai. Time literally flies, I cannot believe that September is almost over and I've been in Shanghai for a month already. As the weeks have gone by I've gradually gotten increasingly settled & back into routine.  Last week was a pleasant week of teaching. The highlight of my week has to be my second school, that I teach at on Wednesday's and Thursday's, in which we had our first ever English Corner. My heart literally MELTED, as the children were so passionate to sing and constantly volunteered so many songs to sing & perform to me!  I also saw the best name-cards the next day in my grade two classes! One being "DON" and another "DICK". I often wonder who cooses the students names and how they come about. Ultimately, I had a wonderful, amusing and successful week of teaching!  Fortunately, I have Friday's off work so I made it a pro...

Mid-Autumn Festival in Shanghai :)

Hey! So it’s 10:30pm on a Sunday evening and I’ve finally got a chance to sit down and write this week’s blog. Living in Shanghai, one of the largest cities ever, definitely provides for a proper city life – busy, awesome & always something to do! I must admit, this year more than last year, I’ve been super busy. This is probably because of the shaky start with my living situation, change in schools and increase in classes this year! Last year I taught just grade one and grade three; whereas this year I’m teaching grade 1,2,3,4 and 5! This leads to more lesson planning. Nevertheless, I’ve got a routine forming, I’m becoming an expert at lesson planning and this increased workload is actually preparing me for what it may be like when I’m doing my PGCE, and becoming a qualified teacher next year! This week has been a productive yet enjoyable week. It daunted on me, when I said goodbye to Sunaina as she went off to travel to Guiling & Beijing, that I needed to ge...
