Christmas in Shanghai!

WOW, what a Christmas! This year was my second Christmas away from home, and truly as much as I miss my family and friends from back home, it was truly great! Last year I also had a lovely Christmas, visited Christmas markets and had a huge turkey dinner at a friend’s house, with a Secret Santa and the rest! This year has been even more festive, happy and merry. A couple of weeks ago I ordered a cheap £1.80 Christmas tree on Taobao (China’s ebay/amazon) and it turned out fabulous! That has really gotten me into the Christmas spirit. Anyway, on Friday I went into school with some mince pie gifts in my bag for my friendly colleagues and my Santa dress packed ready to wear! I arrived around lunchtime and their festivities for Christmas were absolutely fabulous! As soon as I walked into the canteen I was greeted by “Santa” (a colleague humorously dressed up as Santa) and a heart shaped cute gift; which turned out to be a Christmassy decorated pingguo (apple)! Feeling festive!

Ho ho!! So the past week and a half or so has been festive and awesome! Last week, I had my last lessons at my Chonggu School. Chonggu was the new school I was given for this year. At first I was apprehensive but the school, the teachers and the students are now so amazing. I’ve grown so attached and it was emotional to finish the term off with them! On Thursday, my official last day with them I can’t explain in words just how sweet my send-off was. To be honest, I wasn’t sure that all the kids actually knew it was my last day since they don’t finish for a few weeks yet. Anyway, I was having my last class teaching the kids about bugs. At the end of class, I headed out to go home. I noticed the students following me, and didn’t think too much of it. They followed me to the toilet, and when I came out of the toilet they were still there so cutely saying goodbye.
